The decoration of the ruins of the watchtower "Nalog"

In wind and weather to the top...

Today I would like to upgrade a commercial watchtower ruin "Nalog " with statues, paint and greenery. To do this, I need to the model itself 4 statues "wisdom", paint, brushes, craft knife, sandpaper Bastelleim and various green stuff for gardening.

Step-by-step instruction

Instructions from Thomas Reinheckel (ex Thomarillion, now Brickerium)

You need that

Model "Watchtower Ruin, Nalog"
4 statues "Wisdom"
Paint
Brush
Craft knife
Sandpaper
Craft glue
Materials for greening
01
Delivery form
The Nalog ruin is sprinkled with some grass from the factory. This would interfere with the priming, so I remove it with the help of a small wire brush, do not worry, nothing happens to the model itself and the paint comes back on.
I also have to "take care" of the four statues.
02
Customize statues
So that the statues fit better to the columns and there is no gap on the back, I lay them flat on a sandpaper and carefully sand the back into the desired shape. Little pressure, check again and again, rather in small steps and in the end a perfect result.
03
Age the statues
The sages should visually fit better to the ruin, for this they need small damages, such as quirks and cracks. I do this with the craft knife. Always watch out for the fingers!
04
Glue in statues and prime model
After that, the guys are glued in place, and everything gets a base coat of very dark gray.
05
The painting
Let dry well and off you go with the painting. This can be done with 2-3 layers of dry brushing in increasingly lighter shades of gray. I myself do it with a layer of light gray from the spray can. Mist carefully and irregularly so there are lighter and darker areas. Finish with a coat of white to show off edges, cracks and the wall texture.
If you don't like gray and perhaps prefer sandstone, you'll find another color example at the end of the craft tip.
06
Where dirt makes sense
To make the painting a bit more realistic and interesting I "dirty" the structure with some umber. Apply very dry and sparingly and think well where dirt and dust makes the most sense (in the apartment in any case).
07
Let the grass grow over the matter
For the greening, I start with a base of "Rocky Highlands" (Rocky Mountain Meadow) and supplement that in places with some Basing & Battleground Forest Soil Dark Green. This brings a little variety to the matter.
08
Foliage tendrils
With Basing & Battleground Foliage dark green I let the green sprout up to the ceiling on the walls, especially in the corners. It's easy to do, gives each model a great look, and the pack is incredibly productive. I'm on my third project now, one of them the big dwarf fortress, and still have more than half the pack left.
To do this, use scissors to cut a matching strip from the Foliage Mat. I let it get thinner towards the top. You can still pull, press and shape the strips. Coat the designated areas with craft glue, apply the strip, press it down, and you're done.
On these tendrils you can, according to desire and need, still flockage in different colors, or also flowers stick on. But since I'm here in a rather barren area and that visually does not fit so well, I'll show that another time.

09
More grass!
Finally, there are tufts of grass in different colors. Matching the highlands I take dark green, olive green and brown / beige. The range of tufts is large, there is something for everyone.
10
Finished!
My project is finished, I'm satisfied with the result and make my way home through mysterious forests, past ancient trees and ruins of prehistoric times.
11
There is more!
You can also design the whole model in another color variant or equip the interior with one of our summoning circles!
